VIZIO E420i-B0 Review

VIZIO E420i-B0 is a huge leap forward considering the value TV range offered by VIZIO this year. This model homes in a full-array LED TV with 5 LED zones for dimming. There are in fact two models of the E series E420i (with Internet) and E420 (without Internet). The VIZIO E420i-B0 is perfect for your bedroom and super easy to install.

Picture Performance

The VIZIO E420i-B0’s image quality cannot be compared to that of a plasma display regarding depth and contrast but it offers great value. If you watch a TV show like Game of Thrones with it the darker scenes will distort a little and the black color will depict a haze over it too. The overall color with the VIZIO E420i-B0 is just above average quality but to some more is desired. However, the black levels can be adjusted by the Black Detail option under the Advanced Picture Setting menu. It does provide a significant boost to the overall picture quality.

Viewing Angle

The viewing angles with the VIZIO E420i-B0 are not that bad. With the Black Detail option adjusted accordingly the viewing angle gets better but the view distorts after crossing 25 degrees or more.

Calibration Option

You have to opt for the best picture mode with the VIZIO E420i-B0 to get the best out of it. The VIZIO E420i-B0 offers standard, calibrated, calibrated dark, game and vivid TV modes to choose from. My personal favorite is the calibrated dark as it displays blacker blacks and brighter brights. It gives the picture quality a much needed boost.

Smart TV Features

The VIZIO E420i-B0 comes with the VIZIO Internet Apps Plus platform that is pretty decent. Of course it is not up to the standard of the LG WebOS or the Samsung Smart Hub but still it offers some decent features. Plus means that it is a revised version of the earlier platform that enables built in WiFi and loads HD content streaming faster. It supports streaming content from Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, VUDU, MGO, Hulu Plus, YouTube, and more. The Internet Apps Plus is easy to setup and provides fast streaming speeds over WiFi, which is the most common issue with other Smart TV platforms nowadays.
